KWES is holding an Open Day at our Mereworth compound on Tuesday September 6th from 9am to 1pm. There will be a demonstration of woodland product making and an opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeships KWES provides and the work KWES does.
KWES is a charity whose objective is to provide apprenticeships for ex-Service personnel, ex-offenders and young people in woodland management. The charity has grown rapidly and now KWES has 20 apprentices in training.
In doing so KWES’s apprentices are maintaining Kent’s “ancient” woodlands by helping to coppice them, which these woodlands need if they are to be sustainably managed. Coppiced wood is then turned into greenwood products by the apprentices. Products include pea sticks, bean poles, fencing materials, faggots for riverbank consolidation and charcoal.
